Details

Public observing nights at the Grenfell Observatory will resume  Saturdays on July 5 at 9: 30 p.m., July 19 at 9:30 p.m., Aug. 2 at 9 p.m.,  and Aug.  16 at 9 p.m.

Each session will begin with a short introductory talk in AS 2016 on the ground floor of the Arts and Science Extension. The talk will be followed by a tour of the observatory and observing with the telescope (if it is clear). If it is overcast, a longer talk will precede a tour of the observatory.

The objects which will be viewed will depend on the weather and what is “up,” because the sky changes not only during the night, but with the seasons as well. On July 5 and Aug. 2 , you may see the first quarter Moon.  Saturn will be visible all summer, Mars may be visible for the July dates, and Pluto may be visible Aug. 16.  Other interesting objects will include double stars, star clusters, and perhaps a galaxy.

No reservations are required. The observatory is equipped with an elevator for accessibility. Please notify us at 637-6292 or  observatory@grenfell.mun.ca if you require its use.
