New Indian Restaurant Coming to Corner Brook

The Corner Brook Downtown Business Association says a new restaurant project is proof there’s value in cataloguing vacant and unused property in the City.

Nirvana Indian Restaurant, the first restaurant serving authentic Indian cuisine in western Newfoundland, will soon be opening in the location previously occupied by Rustica, at 8 Broadway. That location has been sitting vacant for approximately 6 months.

“The DBA was contacted by the new proprietor, looking for a suggestion on available restaurant space. Even though it wasn’t publicly listed for lease, we knew the space was sitting unused, so we reached out to the property owner,” said Jim Parsons, DBA chair.

Parsons says they brokered meetings between the two sides and it resulted in a lease agreement.

The Downtown Business Association recently launched its Unoccupied Commercial Property Listing, which advertises vacant and available commercial space in the downtown. The public listing can be found at and the Association welcomes additional information from property owners and inquiries from new businesses looking for space.

“We believe it’s critical to fill vacant space in the downtown. Having a higher concentration of shops, restaurants and other businesses helps attract more people to the downtown, which is good for all businesses. A rising tide floats all boats.”
