Recognizing Those Committed to Student Success

Education Week Highlights the Importance of Learning

The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, is joining the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association (NLTA) to recognize October 5-11 as Education Week in Newfoundland and Labrador. This year’s theme is I Remember! I Learn! Je me souviens! J’apprends!

“As a former educator and now as Education Minister, I know the dedication of our teachers throughout the province and the time and energy they devote to the education, development and growth of our young students. The new Department of Education and Early Childhood Development was created to put more focus on early learning and providing the best possible start for our children. I know our teachers share that commitment. This week is the perfect time to recognize this commitment and to acknowledge the importance of education for students as well as for the future growth and prosperity of our province.”

The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development

Education Week has been recognized in this province since 1936. It is designed to celebrate the achievements of students and recognize the work of the NLTA, the two provincial school districts, the school board trustees, school councils, school staff and all volunteers who are dedicated to providing quality education inNewfoundland and Labrador. During Education Week, teachers were also recognized as part of World Teacher Day, which takes place every year on October 5.

“We are pleased to partner with several organizations this year for Education Week including the Fire Commissioners Office and the Kids Eat Smart Foundation to acknowledge the importance of remembering and learning. The purpose of Education Week is to focus attention on students, teachers, the education system and educational issues and to encourage parents, community members, as well as the public to become involved in education.”
