RNC Advising Motorists to Lock Vehicles

Written by on December 13, 2016

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Corner Brook Region is encouraging drivers to protect their vehicles and vehicle contents from theft.

Given the holiday season with members of the public shopping and leaving merchandise and gifts in their vehicles, the RNC is urging motorists to lock their vehicles and ensure that valuables are not left in plain view. By taking precautions to ensure the safety of their belongings, the public can ensure that crimes of opportunity do not ruin their holiday season.

Police want motorists to be reminded of the dangers involved in leaving personal information or valuables in unlocked vehicles. While theft of vehicles has declined in recent years, identity theft and fraud related incidents have increased. Victims may not realize they have been victimized until it is too late, costing time and money to rectify.
