Significant Traffic Detours Planned for Downtown Area
Written by Administrator on June 9, 2015
The City of Corner Brook wishes to advise residents and businesses that a significant traffic detour is planned for the West St. / Park St. area commencing the end of June. This detour is necessary due to the closure of upper Park St for a storm sewer capital project. The traffic detour is expected to last approximately 4 weeks.
City staff, in consultation with the project consultant and the contractor are developing a traffic and signage plan to ensure access for local and emergency traffic is maintained at all times, and to allow access to business in the area. Details of the detour will be released in the coming weeks.
Staff has also been working with the DBA and the local businesses to ensure good communications are maintained throughout the duration of the project. Staff is also working with the Contractor to ensure the time required for the detour is minimized as much as possible.
The first phase of the project will begin shortly with the construction of a manhole in the area of the Corner Brook Stream walking trail next to the Glynmill Inn. Traffic is not expected to be impacted by this work, but the walking trail will be closed to pedestrian traffic.
The City asks the public for their patience and understanding while this important capital project is underway.
