An intense low pressure system is forecast to track towards Labrador later this week. Current indications are that strong winds, relatively mild temperatures for this time of year and potentially significant rainfall can be expected Christmas Day into Boxing Day. Precipitation Christmas Day may begin as snow or freezing rain over northern and western areas of the island before changing to rain. Rainfall amounts as well as strong winds associated with this system could approach or possibly exceed warning criteria.
Environment Canada will continue to monitor the development of this system and provide further updates as new information becomes available. Those planning travel or other weather-sensitive activities are advised to monitor these future forecasts for additional information.
